This is a Grease Monkey script that can extend Firefox to be able to view Emoji, which are Japanese smilies or emoticons.Emoji in Firefox in Mac OS X and Windows and Linux! WIN!
To get emoji in your browser:
First get Firefox. Then, get the Grease Monkey Add-on.
Then get iPhone Emoji Reader (version 3). UPDATED 9/28/2009
New in Version 3
- Faster: should be way faster now.
- Bigger: all emoji are embedded within the script. This means that it doesn't depend on this website being up to work and if Apple tells me to stop distributing their emoji icons in the future, your copy of iPhone Emoji Reader will continue to work.
Once you've got those installed and running. Check out a website that has emoji in it.
Entering emoji:
First open the emoji palette. Then select the box under the image you want to use.
Finally, paste the character into a text field in your browser.
Caveats
iPhoneEmojiReader was mainly designed with twitter in mind. It works fine on that page and most others. But pages that use a lot of javascript seem to get broken when using this. So for now its probably best if you turn it off when you're not using it. The switch for Grease Monkey is the little monkey face in the status bar at the bottom right of the browser.
